Elad Theater and the Cameri Theater have announced a new production of The Father, the acclaimed play by French playwright Florian Zeller . Directed by Shai Pitovsky and translated by Dori France, the production stars Dvir Bendek in the leading role. Performances will run through 8 August.

Widely regarded as one of the most celebrated plays of the modern era, The Father is a moving human drama infused with dark humor, compassion, and emotional honesty. The story follows André, a man whose grasp on reality is increasingly affected by dementia. As memories, relationships, places, and timelines blur together, audiences are drawn directly into his fragmented perspective, experiencing the confusion and uncertainty of his world from within rather than observing it from the outside.

Through André’s journey, the play explores themes of memory, family, longing, identity, and resilience. As the pieces of his life continually fall apart and reform, both André and the audience attempt to make sense of an ever-shifting reality. The result is an immersive theatrical experience that balances humor and heartbreak while illuminating the enduring strength of the human spirit.

Originally written by Zeller, The Father has been performed at major theaters around the globe and has become a contemporary classic. The play was later adapted into the acclaimed film of the same name, which earned multiple Academy Awards.

The production marks the second collaboration between Elad Theater and the Cameri Theater. Based in Eilat and the Eilot region, Elad Theater has become one of Israel’s most distinctive cultural institutions. Founded by a group of actors and creators who relocated from central Israel, the company is dedicated to transforming the country’s southernmost region into a vibrant center for artistic innovation.
