15 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out . We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

INDEX (EX CONTROL TOP) – “CELLOPHANE”

Former Control Top members Alan Creedon and Alex Lichtenauer have formed new group Index and have shared their debut single. “Cellophane” is a punk battering ram that they say is “about self-deception and the rituals we perform to convince ourselves we’re holding it together. Musically, we wanted to move away from anything riff-based and write in a way that felt fluid and unstable. The two of us function as a single organism, threading through shifting time signatures rather than locking into them. We were interested in the physicality of electronic body music pushed through a hardcore framework. Something precise and controlled, but still capable of impact in a room.”

SUNDAYCLUB – “BLUE WAVE”

Winnipeg dream poppers sundayclub release their self-titled dbut in July, and the new single is “Blue Wave,” “This song reminisces on the early days of a relationship in the midst of inner turmoil and uncertainty over what the future might hold,” they say. “It’s about wanting to be a different, better, and more evolved version of yourself despite not being there yet, and seeking escapism in the past as a way to find solace. I felt impossibly restless at the time of writing the song and was just generally tired: tired of feeling like I wasn’t progressing, tired of being patient with the record we were making, tired of feeling vulnerable and overlooked. By looking back into the past, I could escape into a feeling of wistfulness to distract myself from how frustrated I was in the present.”

SHANNON LAY – “PAST THE VEIL”

Shannon Lay will release new album Past The Veil on July 28 via All The Best. “Past The Veil is about turning towards discomfort and moving into it in order to get out of it,” she explains. “Learning how to be present with our emotions requires a lot of practice. I hope this can be a reminder to continue that courageous work and live more freely because of it.” Check out the title track.
