The 92NY show features songs from ANNIE, WICKED, and CATS alongside works by next-generation songwriters.

POPULAR

92nd Street Y New York will present a new edition of LYRICS & LYRICISTS JR. , the final Theater for Young Audiences production of the season. The program will feature performances of songs from musicals including Annie , Wicked , and Cats , followed by an interactive segment highlighting new works by emerging musical theater writers.

The first portion of the program will present selections from well-known musicals, performed by a cast highlighting their place in the American musical theater repertoire. The performance will then shift into an interactive format, with audience members invited to respond to new songs as “junior theater critics.” Children will be encouraged to write or draw their reactions to original works as they are performed, offering feedback as the first audience for songs from new musicals in development.

The featured new songs include “Could Be” by Andrew Heidorn, “Ride” by Adam Rothenberg and Polly Hilton, “Sparkly Shoes” by Sonya Hayden, “Adventure in Space” by Rori Nogee and Frank Perri, “Greatest Story of My Life” by Bobby Cronin , “Nothing's Out of Your Reach” by Brett Sturgis , and “Guiding Star” by Julia Segal.

The production is directed and choreographed by Megan Doyle. The participating songwriters have backgrounds that include training at institutions such as Juilliard, Yale, and the BMI Workshop, as well as performance and presentation credits at venues including Radio City Music Hall, Barclays Center, Lincoln Center, Birdland, and 54 Below.

Designed for audiences ages 6 through teens, the performance runs approximately 45 minutes. 92NY also offers a downloadable “Social Story” resource to help prepare children for their first theater experience.

LYRICS & LYRICISTS is 92NY’s long-running American Songbook series, which has explored the work of major songwriters for more than 50 years through performance and narrative programming.

The 92nd Street Y , New York is a cultural and educational institution offering programming in the arts, education, and community engagement, including performances, classes, and public events.
