Akira Yamaoka's 'Return To Silent Hill' Soundtrack Vinyl Release Announced

Akira Yamaoka’s soundtrack for Return To Silent Hill is getting a vinyl release featuring 29 specially remastered tracks.

Return To Silent Hill hit cinemas earlier this year. The faithful adaptation of Silent Hill 2 was directed by Christophe Gans and saw Jeremy Irvine take on the role of James Sunderland, a distraught husband who visits the town of Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his deceased wife Mary (Hannah Emily Anderson).

The film received mixed reviews from fans but the soundtrack from long-time Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka was universally praised.

In January, Yamaoka shared the soundtrack on streaming and today (June 25), it’s been confirmed that a selection of tracks from Return To Silent Hill are coming to vinyl.

The 2LP boxset will feature 29 tracks specially remastered for vinyl. A limited-edition ‘Fog World’ pressing is available via Laced while a standard black disc edition will also be available from other retailers. The soundtrack for Return To Silent Hill features reworked tracks from the original Silent Hill 2 score, alongside brand new compositions.

“The horror of Silent Hill is not merely unpleasant or violent. There is always something fragile, human, and irretrievably beautiful mixed within it. Refusing to deny that has remained unchanged since the beginning,” Yamaoka said in a press release. “The goal was never to replay the game’s music as it was. Instead, the challenge was to reinterpret it—to alter its meaning, its distance, and its placement—so it could breathe within the film’s sense of time, imagery, and the inner lives of the characters. It was not a quotation, but a reimagining.”
