Angels' Neto breaks up no-hitter, wins game with walk-off homer in 9th

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Athletics starter J.T. Ginn took a no-hitter into the ninth inning Monday night before Adam Frazier lined a leadoff single for the Los Angeles Angels .

Zach Neto then followed with a two-run homer, stunning Ginn and the A's while ending a six-game losing streak for the Angels. The 2-1 victory was their third walk-off win this season.

Frazier lined an 0-2 pitch over shortstop for a clean single, giving Los Angeles only its third baserunner. Neto then drove a 2-0 sinker 413 feet to center field for his eighth home run of the season.

It was Neto's first career walk-off home run and second career walk-off hit, the last coming in July against the Seattle Mariners .

Ginn (2-2) was perfect through 4⅓ innings and came within three outs of the first major league no-hitter since Shota Imanaga combined with two Chicago Cubs relievers for a 12-0 win over Pittsburgh on Sept. 4, 2024.

He threw 105 pitches, 64 for strikes. He struck out 10, walked one and hit Neto with a pitch in the sixth.

The right-hander from Mississippi, who turns 27 on Wednesday, closed out the seventh with his 10th strikeout -- setting a career high.

The game was scoreless until pinch hitter Lawrence Butler put the A's ahead 1-0 with an RBI single.

It was the 30th career start for Ginn, who made his major league debut in August 2024.

The Angels haven't been no-hit since Sept. 11, 1999 -- the longest active streak in the majors.

This is the eighth time a team has lost a no-hit bid in the ninth inning since the last no-hitter was completed in September 2024 (including combined no-hit bids). Three of those eight teams not only lost the no-hitter but lost the game.
