Tony Award-winning 1776 is a musical exploration of the Second Constitution Congress as it works to draft the Declaration of Independence. In the summer of 1776, John Adams , Ben Franklin , and Thomas Jefferson –among others–debate the content and wording of a document to declare independence from Britain. The declaration became the basis of democracy in America. With sharp dialogue and unforgettable music, 1776 is a delightful and salient journey into the founding of our country.
“Never has there been a more important time to remember and celebrate the roots of democracy in the United States,” says director David Kiley. “1776 reminds us that patriotism is an ongoing process which relies on Americans of all generations to keep democracy strong.”
