The album includes the world premiere recordings of Roumain's And Still We Cross, Sakhi's String Quartet No. 1: Tolo, John Cornelius's PAX, and Marcus Maroney's The Color Blue. The recording also features newly arranged works including Corigliano's One Sweet Morning, Howard Hanson's Song of Democracy arranged by Mark Buller, and a reimagining of Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 by Tracy Silverman.
Apollo founder and violinist Matthew J. Detrick said in a statement, “This album reflects the dimensions of American democracy. Its ideals, its contradictions, its immigrant stories, its struggles for equality, its cultural plurality, its future, and its collective imagination.”
Featured collaborators on the recording include author and narrator Kenneth Morris Jr., countertenor John Holiday, Houston Poet Laureate Outspoken Bean, tenor Kenneth Gayle, and the Kinder HSPVA Chorale under the direction of Marcus Jauregui.
The album artwork features a newly commissioned image by Houston-based artist Liana Amaya. Recording sessions took place at venues throughout Texas, including Rice University, The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, and Brazosport College.
