The pirates struggle for power – and acceptance – make enemies – and friends. As the budding-bickering crew sail through ship graveyards and fight mutant deep-sea creatures, they look for a place to call home in this ravaged world, exploring what it means to be free, to resist and to grieve, and to stand in solidarity in the face of our future.

Drawing on the real histories of 14th century Muslim navigator Zheng He and 19th century pirate queen Sek Yeong, alongside the imagined futures of 21st century climate survivors and 23rd century space revolutionaries, Asian Pirate Musical is a new legend on the high seas.

Following the sold-out work-in-progress run at The Vaults (2020), a concert showcase at the Pleasance (2024), and a 2025 studio cast album, this is our first full production after 6 years of development.

Book, Music, and Lyrics by Zhui Ning Chang, Frey Kwa Hawking, Jade Leamcharaskul, Sarita Lewis, Nemo Martin, and XANA.

The cast features: Zheng He - Yñaqui Tuason-Inocian, Sek Yeong - Amanda Maud, Nazar - Ashley Goh , Keliling - Rai Endah, Riang - Nabilah Hamid.

Performances will take place at July 28-August 1 at 7:30pm and August 2 at 2pm at Upstairs at the Gatehouse.
