Justice and desire collide in Shakespeare’s timeless tale of power and hypocrisy. When Vienna’s Duke suddenly disappears, his morally rigid deputy Angelo takes control—determined to rid the city of vice. But when he condemns a young man to death and then propositions the man’s sister, his actions reveal the cracks in his facade of authority. Filled with rich characters, surprising twists, and a comic group of seedy grifters on the make, Measure for Measure explores who holds power, who gets punished, and what it truly means to be virtuous.
The cast of Measure for Measure includes Ato Blankson-Wood as Duke (Broadway’s Cabaret, Slave Play) Sam Lilja as Angelo (Broadway’s The Inheritance, The Iceman Cometh), Katie MacNichol as Mistress Overdone (Globe’s Hedda Gabler, Twelfth Night), David T. Patterson as Claudio (Broadway’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf ?, Les Liaisons Dangereuses), Amelia Pedlow as Isabella (Globe’s The Metromaniacs, Folger’s Love’s Labours Lost), Reza Salazar as Pompey (Broadway’s Clyde’s, Public Theatre’s Oedipus El Rey), Calvin Leon Smith as Lucio (Broadway: Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club – 1st Replacement, The Public’s Fat Ham), and Bruce Turk as Escalus (Broadway’s The Green Bird, Juan Darièn).
The cast also includes students in The Old Globe and University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre Program:Charlie Alguera as Friar Thomas and Angelo’s Attendant; Lance D. Bush as Provost; Trevor Butler as Abhorsen; Juliette Cacciatore as The Justice; Ethan Fox as Froth; Madi Goff as Elbow; Kristina Hinako as Mariana; Stephanie Hinck as Mariana’s Attendant and Singer; Conner Keef as Barnadine, Gentleman 1; Susane Lee as Gentlewoman 2; Max Lorn-Krause as Friar Peter; Shalyn Welch as Sister Francisca; and Kayce Wilson as Juliet.
