Big Truck, the new band recently formed by Soft Play ‘s Laurie Vincent, have announced their debut album ‘Midday At The Middleway’ with new single ‘Collided’.

Vincent is joined by Sam Coppins on drums, Asa Thallon on guitar, and Justin Myles on keys in Big Truck, whose new album is set to arrive on August 28 via Marshall Records – you can pre-order/pre-save it here .

Having already previewed it with 80s indie-inspired ‘ Central Reservation Blues ’, Vincent said their new waltzy post-punk offering ‘Collided’ is one of his favourites from the forthcoming record.

“My musicianship is quite untrained, and I didn’t even realise I was writing it in 6/8 time,” he said. “That’s the kind of stuff that’s been allowed to shine on this record, because it’s a full band and Sam’s jazz background helps those moments to work.”

Coppins also heaped praise on Vincent, saying the song had a distinct quality that was “a snapshot into how good Laurie is”. He added that it “scratches the surface of what he is going to reveal as a result of this project.”

The ‘Midday At The Middleway’ tracklist is:

‘Feel Me?…’

‘Central Reservation Blues’

‘Polyester Vibrations (and the Handstand Currency)’

‘Surf The Suffering’

‘Collided’

‘Head So Full (algae riddim)’

‘Rebounder’

‘Dress For All Weathers’

‘Interlude’

‘Heavensent’

‘Keep On Trucking’

NME  met Soft Play backstage at Reading Festival last year, where  they shared details on their new album and hailed Kneecap for inspiring them to speak about Palestine .

“We took too long to come to the forefront, but then going on tour with Kneecap in the US and watching three of the most eloquent people I’ve ever met talk about it onstage fearlessly and educate us, and show that standing up for people that don’t have a voice is so purposeful… The media makes you believe we’re gonna lose everything if we do it, as well, when the reality is the people in the crowd are there with you,” Vincent told us.
