BLUES & SOUL @ POSTunderground will present an evening of adventurous live performance featuring ORDER of SONANCE, The ZYG 808 Experience, and the MWALIM Trio. Live groove music, soulful improvisation, and deep rhythmic traditions will take center stage at POSTunderground on Friday, June 12.
Located at POSTunderground, 386 Washington St in Brookline, the event begins at 7:30pm and admission is free.
Opening the evening is ORDER of SONANCE at 7:30pm; a rotating Jazz-Funk collective known for its exploratory improvisation, layered rhythmic textures, and collaborative connection with WAMPTRONICA recordings and performances. Blending elements of Jazz, Funk, Soul, and groove-based experimentation, the ensemble creates an immersive opening set rooted in spontaneity and musical conversation.
At 8:30pm, The ZYG 808 Experience brings together Jazz, Soul, Hip-Hop, Afrobeat, and experimental groove traditions in a performance driven by live improvisation, rhythm-forward composition, and contemporary Black musical expression. Known for merging electronic sensibilities with organic musicianship, the project continues to expand the boundaries between live band performance and groove culture.
Closing the evening is the MWALIM Trio featuring Mwalim DaPhunkee Professor on vocals, guitar, and keys; Richard Johnson on bass; and The ZYG 808 on drums. The trio delivers a powerful fusion of Blues, Soul, Jazz, Funk, and underground groove traditions through storytelling, deep improvisation, and emotionally charged musicianship. Rooted in both historical Black musical traditions and modern creative expression, the ensemble creates a live experience centered on groove, connection, and sonic exploration.
The event is presented in association with Poly-Groove Records; the New England-based independent label whose motto, "The Sound of a Good Time!," reflects its commitment to groove-centered music rooted in Soul, Jazz, Funk, Blues, House, and contemporary Black creative traditions. Through artists including The GroovaLottos , WAMPTRONICA, Mwalim DaPhunkee Professor , and The ZYG 808 , the label continues to cultivate a regional creative music movement connecting live performance culture, independent artistry, and community-centered musical experiences.
BLUES & SOUL @ POSTunderground reflects the ongoing emergence of New England's independent groove and creative music scene; bringing together artists whose work bridges Jazz improvisation, Soul storytelling, electronic rhythm culture, and contemporary underground music aesthetics.
