Boards of Canada Condemn White House Music Use in Political Video

The Trump administration loves using artists’ music without permission, but this one is pretty unexpected. Last night The White House posted a video to their socials that used Boards of Canada ‘s “Deep Time” from their new album Inferno , as well as a haunted, degraded VHS-look — featuring helicopters, rescue boats, the Washington monument and the White House logo — that mimics the Scottish downtempo duo’s visual style.

Boards of Canada and their label, Warp Records, released a joint statement: “Warp Records and Boards of Canada do not condone the unauthorised use of their music for political messaging.”

“Deep Time” was the first taste of Boards of Canada’s Inferno , their first album in 13 years, we got to hear and was originally released as “Tape 05,” which was sent out to select mailing list members on a VHS tape. The timing is certainly interesting:  Inferno is out tomorrow, May 29.
