Emmy, Olivier, and Golden Globe-winning actor Brian Cox will receive the RAINDANCE ICON AWARD this year at Raindance’s Opening Gala on 17 June, after the UK premiere of APRIL X. The Raindance Icon Award will be presented to Brian Cox by multiple Academy Award-nominated director Jim Sheridan .

“Raindance has always been a powerful and pioneering influence in the creation of cinema over the last 30 years," said Cox in a statement. "Its standard of work has set an extremely high bar for the cinematic world. So it is indeed a great honour to receive this wonderful award.”
Also receiving a Raindance Icon Award this year are acclaimed actress, writer, comedian and national treasure Miriam Margolyes (who will also receive her award at Raindance’s Opening Gala, presented by Academy Award nominated short filmmaker Lee Knight ), and American film director and co-founder of Troma Entertainment film studio Lloyd Kaufman .
A posthumous Raindance Icon Award will be presented to rock & roll icon Eddie Cochran, the influential subject of closing gala EDDIE COCHRAN: DON’T FORGET ME. Presented to Eddie’s sister and niece, this Icon Award is set to be displayed alongside his original Gretsch guitar and his other trophies at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
Brian Cox is an Emmy, Olivier, and Golden Globe Award-winning actor, best known for his role in the HBO series Succession, for which he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series. Cox is also the recipient of a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for his portrayal of Hermann Goering in Nuremberg (2000), and has appeared in numerous films including, The Long Kiss Goodnight, The Boxer, Rushmore, Super Troopers, The Ring, 25th Hour, Troy, Red Eye, Zodiac, The Escapist, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Coriolanus, Manhunter, Churchill, The Bourne trilogy, as well as Little Wing, The Parenting, and The Electric State.
Cox made his feature directorial debut with Glenrothan, a film shot on location in Scotland. Most recently, he joined the cast of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.
Cox is also a veteran of the London stage, having won two Olivier Awards for Best Actor for his performances in Titus Andronicus for the Royal Shakespeare Company and Rat in the Skull for the Royal Court. He starred in The Score at the Theatre Royal Bath , which transferred to the Theatre Royal Haymarket, and Long Day's Journey Into Night at the Wyndhams Theatre opposite Patricia Clarkson . He also appeared in Make It Happen, which premiered to great acclaim at the Edinburgh Festival. His New York theatre credits include St. Nicholas, which earned him the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Actor as well as Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations.
Cox has written three books: Salem to Moscow: An Actor's Odyssey, The Lear Diaries, and his autobiography, Putting the Rabbit in the Hat. In 2004, he was honoured at the BAFTA Scotland Awards with an Outstanding Achievement Award and at the 2004 Great Scot Awards with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Empire Magazine awarded him the Empire Icon Award for his film achievements in 2006, and the UK Film Council named him one of the Top 10 powerful British film stars in Hollywood in 2007. In 2003, Brian was made a CBE, a Commander of the British Empire.
