Bright Eyes performs "Let's Not Shit Ourselves" with Ben Kweller at NYC show
Bright Eyes kicked off a three-night series at NYC's Wide Awake, with Ben Kweller joining them for "Let's Not Shit Ourselves." This marked the first time many "Digital Ash in a Digital Urn" songs had been played live in two decades.

After being forced to postpone the show from last week due to severe storms , Bright Eyes played their first of three special shows celebrating 21 years of their 2005 albums I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning and Digital Ash in a Digital Urn at Red Rocks in Morrison, CO. They played I’m Wide Awake from beginning to end first, followed by a set from Ben Kweller , then came back out for Digital Ash . It was the first time they’d played some of those songs in 20 years or more, including “Time Code, “Devil in the Details,” “Ship in a Bottle,” and “Theme from Pinata,” and the first time they’d played “Arc of Time (Time Code)” since 2011.
Bright Eyes began their encore with an instrumental version of “America the Beautiful,” set to projections of messages calling for the abolishment of ICE and giving information about slavery and immigration. Then they played a couple of non-2005 songs, LIFTED ‘s “Lover I Don’t Have to Love” and Cassadaga ‘s “Make a Plan to Love Me,” before closing out the night with Kweller joining them on another LIFTED track, “Let’s Not Shit Ourselves (To Love and to Be Loved.” See the full setlist and attendee-taken video below.
Bright Eyes have two more Wide Awake / Lifted shows coming up, at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl on May 23 (with The Moldy Peaches ) and NYC’s Forest Hills Stadium on June 6 (with Built to Spill ).
