Bring Me the Horizon Frontman Oli Sykes Suffers Concussion from Thrown Phone

Bring Me the Horizon frontman Oli Sykes suffered a mild concussion after someone in the crowd threw a phone at him during the band’s concert Monday night, May 11th, at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis.

Fan-filmed video captured the moment Sykes got struck in the head with the phone while performing “Happy Song” early on in the set, with the singer exclaiming, “Who the fuck just threw a phone at my fuckin’ head?”

Subsequent footage shows the singer rubbing his temple and appearing to struggle a bit through the performance, although he did manage to finish the show. However, the band did cut out the song “YOUtopia” and Sykes didn’t make his way into the crowd like he usually does during “Drown” toward the end of the set.

On his Instagram stories today, Sykes wrote the following:

“Alright everyone – just wanted to let you know I’m all good. The phone to the head definitely smarted and I ended up with a mild concussion, but the swelling’s gone down a decent amount already.

Last night I was struggling a bit on stage afterwards because singing was putting a lot of pressure on the wound and making things feel a bit disorienting while performing, so I’m sorry on my part for what may of seemed like a half hearted performance.

Appreciate everyone checking in and worrying about me though 🖤 Everything should be fine for tonight’s gig.”

Bring Me the Horizon have a few more dates left on their spring North American tour, culminating with a headlining appearance at Sonic Temple festival in Columbus, Ohio, this Saturday, May 15th. As Sykes mentioned, he expects to be okay for tonight’s show in Kansas City.
