In a wordless mime show combining hand puppetry, physical comedy, and a simple blackboard, Double Takeweaves together eight short stories that invite audiences to look closer, think again, and delight in the unexpected. From the daily plight of a hungry snail to the Big Bang itself, each story is a miniature universe, revealing the humour, drama, and intimacy of everyday life while drawing audiences into a deeply creative, emotionally surprising experience. Set to an atmospheric soundtrack by Jack McGuire (WetHands), this two-hander relies entirely on physical theatre and mime, making the audience's imagination its most powerful tool. Told in Broken Box Mime Theater's distinctive style, these slices of life celebrate the capacity of the body and the power of simple storytelling.

Broken Box Mime Theater and Dutch Kills Theater Company previously premiered Double Take at Edinburgh Fringe in 2025 for a limited run at ZOO Playground before taking it across to Ayers House at Adelaide Fringe 2026.

Double Take is part of Dutch Kills Theater Company's wider programme of performance at the Fringe this year, including Channel (Assembly George Square), a live electronic music performance that encourages audiences to reflect on the overwhelming noise of social media, Peregrinations (Assembly Roxy), a wordless work of masked physical theatre and puppetry exploring the immigrant crisis in America, and Noted (Assembly Roxy), a non-verbal physical comedy created with The Back Pack where live hand drawn illustrations bring to life the whimsical and absurd nature of human connection.

Broken Box Mime Theater is a collaborative theater company that performs original work entirely through movement with a mission to activate the imaginations of audiences, contemporize the art of mime, and remind us all of the power of simple storytelling. Based in NYC and founded in 2011, this version of “mime, redefined” blends techniques of French pantomime, cinema, performance art, and contemporary theater.

Dutch Kills Theater Company is based in New York, developing and producing new work by emerging artists. Founded in 2011, they brought The Sister and Adventure Quest to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2016. This was followed by the critically acclaimed The Providence of Neighboring Bodies by Jean Ann Douglass in 2018, and Solitary—a powerful look at solitary confinement in the U.S.—by Duane Cooper and Blake Haberman in 2019. In 2021, they staged the immersive UK premiere of KlaxAlterian Sequester on demand, and in 2022 presented Intelligence at Assembly Roxy alongside the critically-acclaimed Temping that ran from 2022 – 2024. In 2025 they returned to Edinburgh Fringe with the world premiere ofChannel and the UK premiere of Whisper Walk. Dutch Kills has also produced critically acclaimed pieces in New York City and at the Adelaide Fringe.
