Call Of Duty 2026 Set to Be the Definitive Modern Warfare Sequel
The "determined, bold, relentless" Call of Duty game is scheduled for launch later this year, promising to be the definitive Modern Warfare sequel.

The 2026 edition of Call Of Duty will be a sequel to Modern Warfare , developers Infinity Ward have revealed.

The original Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare game was released in 2007 and two sequels followed in 2009 and 2011. The series was rebooted with 2019’s Modern Warfare which spawned two more sequels.
After back-to-back Black Ops games in 2024 and 2025, it had been reported that this year’s Call Of Duty title would be part of that long-running Modern Warfare series. Yesterday (May 21) game developers Infinity Ward confirmed the rumours.
“Yes, we are making the definitive Modern Warfare ,” they wrote on social media. The studio also shared a statement about their vision for the project. “We Are Infinity Ward. We build visceral, immersive combat experiences that hit different. As a new chapter begins for this studio, we’re focused on what defines us – passion, precision, obsession and an unrelenting drive to make the best entertainment in the industry,” they explained.

“Our next game is the result of that mindset. Determined. Bold. Relentless. Built by a team pushing every detail, every system, every moment to its limit. On behalf of everyone at Infinity Ward, we’re proud of what we’ve been building and excited to finally start sharing it with you.”
The release date for the new Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare is still to be announced. Usually new Call Of Duty games are released in the middle of November but Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to launch November 19 so that might change.
Last year was “tough” for the team behind Call Of Duty after Black Ops 7 was met with middling reviews and lower-than-expected sales .
“We know that for some of you, the franchise has not met your expectations fully . To be very clear, we know what you expect and rest assured we will deliver, and overdeliver, on those expectations as we move forward,” they wrote in a blog post. Activision also said they were going to stop “back-to-back releases” of Modern Warfare or Black Ops titles. “The reasons are many, but the main one is to ensure we provide an absolutely unique experience each and every year,” they explained.. “We will drive innovation that is meaningful, not incremental.”
The new Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare will also not be joining Xbox Game Pass for at least a year as Microsoft bosses have reworked the service to make it “more affordable”.
