Since opening its doors in 2006, the Four Seasons Centre has welcomed thousands of artists and audiences, establishing itself as one of the world's premier destinations for opera and ballet. A Concert Celebration: 20 Years at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts invites audiences to share in the many milestones marked to date in this world-class venue while looking ahead to the next chapter of artistic excellence at the COC.
“The Four Seasons Centre was truly the result of our community rallying together in support of an extraordinary venue for showcasing extraordinary artistry,” says General Director David Ferguson . “This September, we look forward to toasting to 20 years of artistic achievement while showcasing the kind of unparalleled live experience that will continue to define the future of the Canadian Opera Company.”
Under the baton of COC Music Director Johannes Debus, the evening features the acclaimed COC Orchestra and award-winning COC Chorus led by Price Family Chorus Master Sandra Horst, alongside current and graduate artists of the company's prestigious Ensemble Studio. The program will include a special performance of the fanfare composed by Scott Irvine for the opera house's inaugural season in 2006, followed by Beethoven's monumental Symphony No. 9.
The all-Canadian lineup of soloists include several familiar faces to COC audiences. Soprano Aviva Fortunata is a regular presence at Calgary Opera and Pacific Opera Victoria and recently was praised for her “radiant high notes” (Classical Voice North America) as Leonara in Verdi's Il Trovatore at Sarasota Opera. Mezzo-soprano Ariana Maubach was the First Prize and Audience Choice Prize winner at the 2024 Ensemble Studio Competition; she starred as Rosina this past winter in the COC's mainstage student performance of The Barber of Seville.
Matthew Cairns is a fast-rising tenor whose international appearances include performances at the Metropolitan Opera, Opéra de Toulon, and Opéra national de Paris; most recently he starred as Ismaele in the COC's 2024 production of Nabucco and the Drum Major in Wozzeck. Bass-baritone Alex Halliday has made a number of Canadian company debuts this season, including appearances as Angelotti in Tosca at Pacific Opera Victoria, Colline in La Boheme at Vancouver Opera, and Fafner in Wagner's Siegfried at Edmonton Opera.
Regularly priced tickets for A Concert Celebration: 20 Years at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts start at $35 for adults. Tickets can be purchased online at coc.ca or by calling the Four Seasons Centre Box Office at 416-363-8231.
