Christian Nodal Seeks ‘El Forajido’ Trademark, Sparking Family Dispute Rumors

Christian Nodal may soon be redirecting his future in the music industry under the name “El Forajido” (“The Outlaw”). The regional Mexican music superstar has filed for trademark registration of the name with the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), according to a document dated April 22 obtained by Billboard .

The trademark application comes amid a rumored dispute between Nodal and his father and manager, Jaime González , who has managed his music catalog, image and performances since 2016. González is said to have renewed the trademark registration for the name “Christian Nodal” with the IMPI in 2025, securing commercial rights to the brand for an additional period of up to 10 years.

Billboard Español has reached out to Nodal’s press office and his father’s company, JG Music, for comment, but no response was received at press time.

A few days ago, the “Adiós Amor” singer surprised his fans by reappearing on social media with a profile photo featuring the letter “N” and the name “El Forajido.” Days earlier, during a performance at a palenque (a traditional Mexican venue) in the city of Querétaro, the artist told the audience that his image did not belong to him, fueling speculation of an inevitable family and business breakup.

“A while ago, I told you that my image isn’t mine, my name isn’t mine, nor is my music mine,” Nodal said to the audience, according to videos that went viral on social media. “But my heart and my voice will always belong to you.”

He continued, “If life has taught me anything, it’s that even your own blood can fail you, business can fail you, friendships can fail you, but never your love and support.”

Although Nodal has begun the legal process for the name “El Forajido,” he has not released an official statement about the matter. JG Music, meanwhile, has not provided details on whether it will continue working with Nodal.
