Barber's beloved Adagio for Strings and Leonard Bernstein 's string orchestra arrangement of Beethoven's F-Major String Quartet, Op. 135 bookend this lovely program from Curtis Chamber Orchestra. Acclaimed violinist and Minnesota Orchestra concertmaster Erin Keefe and viola royalty Roberto Díaz join the ensemble for Mozart's sunlit Sinfonia Concertante - an ideal showcase for these two outstanding soloists.

Violinist Erin Keefe is the concertmaster of the Minnesota Orchestra as well as a frequent artist with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Winner of an Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Pro Musicis International Award, as well as numerous international competitions, she has appeared as soloist in recent seasons with the Minnesota Orchestra, New Mexico Symphony, New York City Ballet Orchestra, Korean Symphony Orchestra, Amadeus Chamber Orchestra, Turku Philharmonic, Sendai Philharmonic, and the Gottingen Symphony and has given recitals throughout the United States, Austria, Italy, Germany, Korea, Poland, Finland, Japan, and Denmark.
Keefe has been performing with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center since 2005 and has been featured on Live from Lincoln Center three times. She has collaborated with artists such as the Emerson String Quartet, Edgar Meyer , Gary Hoffman , James Ehnes, Augustin Hadelich, David Finckel, Wu Han, Richard Goode , Roberto and Andrés Díaz, Menahem Pressler, Gary Graffman , and Leon Fleisher, and she has recorded for Naxos, the CMS Studio Recordings label, BIS, Onyx, and Deutsche Grammophon. She has made festival appearances with Music@Menlo, La Jolla SummerFest, Mainly Mozart, Music Academy of the West, Music from Angel Fire, Ravinia, as well as Seattle, OK Mozart, Mimir, Bravo! Vail Valley, Colorado College, Skaneateles, Salt Bay, Music in the Vineyards and Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festivals.
As a guest concertmaster, Keefe has appeared with the New York Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, Seoul Philharmonic, and the Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra.
Keefe earned a Master of Music Degree from The Juilliard School and a Bachelor of Music Degree from the Curtis Institute of Music. Her teachers included Ronald Copes, Ida Kavafian, Arnold Steinhardt, Philip Setzer, Philipp Naegele, Brian Lewis, and Teri Einfeldt. Keefe joined the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music in 2022.
A violist of international reputation, Roberto Díaz ('84) is president and CEO of the Curtis Institute of Music, following in the footsteps of renowned soloist/directors such as Josef Hofmann, Efrem Zimbalist , and Rudolf Serkin.
As a soloist, Díaz collaborates with leading conductors of our time on stages throughout the world. He has also worked directly with important 20th- and 21st-century composers, including Krzysztof Penderecki-whose viola concerto he has performed numerous times with the composer on the podium and whose double concerto he premiered in the United States-as well as Edison Denisov, Jennifer Higdon, Ricardo Lorenz, Bright Sheng, and Roberto Sierra .
A frequent recitalist, Díaz enjoys collaborating with young musicians, bringing a fresh approach to the repertoire and providing invaluable opportunities to artists at the beginning of their careers. In addition to performing with major string quartets and pianists in chamber music series and festivals worldwide, he is a member of the Díaz Trio. His recordings include a Grammy-winning performance of the Jennifer Higdon Viola Concerto, a Grammy-nominated disc of viola transcriptions by William Primrose for Naxos, and releases on the Artek, Bridge Records, Dorian, Nimbus, and New World labels.
In addition to his decade-long tenure as principal viola of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Díaz was also principal viola of the National Symphony under Mstislav Rostropovich and was a member of the Boston Symphony and the Minnesota Orchestra. He is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music, where he continues to serve on the faculty, holding the James and Betty Matarese Chair in Viola Studies and the Nina von Maltzahn President's Chair. Díaz plays the ex-Primrose Amati viola.
At Curtis, the world's great young artists collaborate to create the uniquely rich timbre of a chamber orchestra. Presenting orchestral music in this concentrated configuration allows audiences to experience the individual contributions of each player as they fuse the intimacy of chamber music with the excitement of a larger ensemble.
The Curtis Chamber Orchestra features violinists I-Hao Cheng, Alexandra Cooreman, Audrey Goodner, Emmalena Huning, Sooeon Kim, Zhiyuan Qian, Kai Saotome and Jinyoung Yoon; violists Yunji Jiang, Annis Ma, Nazeeh Shahid and Sam Tatsuki; cellists Alexandra Cooreman, Audrey Goodner, Joan Herget and Ania Lewis; double bassist Maggie Carter ; oboists Izaiah Cheeran and Ben Price; and horn players Henry Friedman and Madelyn Urbine.
