A bold and hilarious new theatre show about creating the world's first gay superhero, Friendliest crashes into the Edinburgh Fringe this year. Acclaimed American comedian Drew Lausch (Club Cumming Presents: A Queer Comedy Extravaganza, Showtime; Intermedium, Prime Video), blends sharp stand-up with raw, unfiltered storytelling as he explores queerness, guilt and small-town life on a mission to save himself, superhero style.

In a high-stakes pitch meeting with a major comic book company, Drew is determined to sell his outrageous new hero. But, as the pitch unravels, so does he. What begins as a comic book concept quickly becomes something far more personal as he confronts the story behind the hero and the life that shaped him.
Drew takes audiences on a wildly funny and deeply personal journey through first love, friendship and betrayal. Raised in Fargo, North Dakota, in Friendliest Drew captures what it means to grow up queer in an unaccepting environment; both a celebration and a reckoning, the show explores Drew's realisation that, while comic books offer clear heroes and villains, real life is far messier. Friendliest is a fearless and timely exploration of queer representation, self-acceptance and responsibility, asking what if you're not the hero of your own story and what if becoming one means finally facing the truth?
Writer and performer Drew Lausch comments, I grew up believing I was the hero of my own coming out story. Writing Friendliest forced me to confront the possibility that I was actually the villain in someone else's. Comedy turned out to be the only way to tell that truth. Performances will run from August 5-31.
