Fiddlehead to Release New EP "Baby I'll Change" This Friday, Title Track Out Now

12:02 PM EDT on June 23, 2026

Since their great 2023 album Death Is Nothing To Us , Fiddlehead have been doing lots of festivals , guesting on friends' records , and forming side projects . But the post-hardcore band is back today with the announcement of a new EP called Baby I'll Change , out this week.

Fiddlehead's three records — 2018's Springtime And Blind , 2021's Between The Richness , and the aforementioned Death Is Nothing To Us — operated as a trilogy about the death of frontman Pat Flynn's father and his own entrance into fatherhood. But in late 2024, after he dropped off his wife and kids at the airport for a cruise with her family, he discovered his mother had passed. Guitarist Alex Henery and bassist Nick Hinsch showed up at his door the next day.

"We went to Pat's house just to support him in a dark time and then we ended up writing music," Henery explains. "It came out of a really good place, of us just wanting to write music together in that moment, and that freed us up to experiment."

For the first time, Fiddlehead worked with popular Asheville producer Alex Farrar (Wednesday, MJ Lenderman). The title track, which is out today, taps into a more vulnerable side of Fiddlehead, letting Flynn air out his feelings over sparse, liminal instrumentation, saving the sonic explosion for the latter half of the track. When it does come, it's more shoegazy than usual. It's great to hear their sound expanding after years of doing relatively the same thing, even though that thing was awesome. The single comes with a music video directed by Henery; watch below.
