Glenn Close and Ridley Scott to Receive Honorary Academy Awards

Glenn Close has been nominated for eight Oscars over the course of her acting career, while Sir Ridley Scott has been nominated for Best Director four times. Neither has ever won before, but this year they’ll finally get a little gold man of their own: An Academy Honorary Award from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (otherwise known as the Governors Awards) in recognition of their incredible careers in cinema.

Also set to be recognized is animation legend Floyd Norman, while the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award will be given to producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler, who have shepherded a generation’s worth of iconic indie cinema to the screen. All the recipients will be recognized at a special ceremony on November 15th. For more, here are some thoughts on why the film world needs an equivalent to Rock Hall’s annual career achievement awards.
