Grand Theft Auto 6 Players Disappointed by Paywalled Exclusives in "Ultimate" Edition
Fans are expressing their dissatisfaction that several key features in Grand Theft Auto 6 are accessible only through the more expensive "Ultimate" version of the game.

Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders went live this morning (June 25) and fans aren’t impressed that several features are only available if you buy the more expensive Ultimate version.

Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Pre-orders are now live , with two different versions of the game available. The standard version of Grand Theft Auto 6 will set you back £69.99 while the Ultimate edition is priced at £89.99.
Anyone who buys the game before November 20 will get the Vintage Vice City Pack, “a collection of items that flash back to when the neon burned brightest” for free, alongside a free month of GTA+.
However, several Grand Theft Auto 6 features are only available if you buy the pricier edition of the game. “The Grand Theft Auto 6: Ultimate Edition amplifies the experience with an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story,” Rockstar Games said yesterday (June 24) in a press release.
They also confirmed five in-game stores would only be available if you own the Ultimate edition of GTA 6 . These include mod shop Rideout Customs, which allows players to “transform vanilla vehicles into magnificent works of art” and Sara’s Unisex Hair Salon, which allows you to customise protagonists Jason and Lucia’s appearances.
Clothing store Stock 305, tattoo shop Electric Fang and One Eyed Willie’s mod shop are also locked behind the Ultimate paywall.
“I think its awful. There’s a big difference between locking unique skins and vehicles behind a paywall and locking entire locations. It literally feels like a mini dlc being sold right from the start,” one disgruntled fan wrote on Reddit.
“Well that’s really scummy and a red flag. Makes you question what else is going to be locked behind the Ultimate Edition and/or microtransactions that they aren’t telling us,” added another. “I don’t know what to say. This is such a punch to the gut from my favourite company,” said a third.

Other fans are frustrated that the physical edition of GTA 6 will be a download code in a box. “This is bullshit,” wrote one fan. “Rockstar is taking away part of what made buying a new GTA game special for longtime fans. It feels less about the players and more about maximising profits,” said another.
The follow-up to 2013’s Grand Theft Auto 5 is rumoured to be the most expensive video game ever made .
