Izia Lindsay, born in Trinidad and Tobago, shares his time between Miami, Florida, and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Lindsay is a mixed-media artist, muralist, and Assistant Professor in the Department of Graphic Design at Augustana University, who explores symbolism in Caribbean iconography. Working across the Global South and within the regional contemporary arts landscape, Lindsay is an alumnus of the MFA program at the University of Miami and the BFA program at the University of the West Indies. He is a recipient of the 2026 DVCAI Catalyst Fellowship for mid-career exhibition production in honor of Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator's thirtieth year.

While grounded in graffiti traditions, Lindsay's work extends toward a sustained investigation of Caribbean identity and post-colonial narrative. Riddims of Graffiti presents a critical examination of Lindsay's artistic evolution, situating his practice within the intersecting histories of graffiti, Caribbean cultural memory, and contemporary visual art. The exhibition functions as both a personal archive and a cultural discourse, tracing how early encounters with graffiti culture evolved into an expanded visual framework that bridges street practice and institutional space.

Referencing the exhibition's title, Riddims of Graffiti, Lindsay notes that "the walls carry the same stories as the islands." Carnival culture represents a foundational influence within the exhibition. Growing up immersed in the performative spectacle of mas (a traditional street parade in Trinidad), Lindsay absorbed an understanding of art as movement, sound, and communal ritual.

Riddims of Graffiti, a solo exhibition by Izia Lindsay, is curated by Rosie Gordon-Wallace, with exhibition design by Danielle Coates, MA, and scholarship and essays developed by DVCAI Scholar-in-Residence, Cristin McKnight Sethi, PhD, and guest scholar Mariah Fox, MFA, with support from the DVCAI Catalyst Fellowship fund, Augustana University, the Barry University Institute for Immigration Studies, and the Monsignor William Barry Library.
