Jesse Plemons Reunites ‘Friday Night Lights’ Band for 20th Anniversary Show

Jesse Plemons has revived Friday Night Lights band Crucifictorious as the series marks its 20th anniversary. Check out footage below.

Originally running between 2006 and 2011 across five seasons, the show is based on the book of immersive journalism by H. G. Bissinger, and was also adapted into a 2004 film.

The story follows a high school football team in a fictional Texas town called Dillon, and starred the likes of Plemons, Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton and future Oscar-winner Michael B. Jordan.

The show also featured a fictional Christian metal band called Crucifictorious, which Plemons and co-star Stephanie Hunt (Devin Boland) reunited at the ATX TV Festival over the weekend.

There, they covered the song ‘Devil’s Town’, which was performed in the show by Tony Lucca, and was originally recorded by Daniel Johnston . Bright Eyes also covered it in their ‘Noise Floor (Rarities: 1998-2005)’ compilation.

“I think this is a song that Crucifictorious would cover,” Hunt said during the appearance, calling it “one of the best songs ever”.

During the festival, original showrunner Jason Katims also gave an update on the planned reboot of the series.

“The idea of doing another incarnation of the show is something that is much … slower. It’s just a conversation,” he said (via Chron ).

“The book that Buzz Bissinger wrote is one of the [greatest pieces of] longform journalism, the movie was unbelievable, and I thought we all made a good show,” he added. “And so we’re not gonna do anything until the point that we feel like we do a show that’s going to be able to live up to that legacy, and there’s no reason to do it until that happens.”

Meanwhile, Plemons will soon be seen in Hunger Games prequel Sunrise On The Reaping , in which he will play the role of Plutarch Heavensbee – originally portrayed by Philip Seymour Hoffman.
