John Lithgow is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play.

Before this Broadway season even began, stage and screen great John Lithgow already had six Tony nominations and two wins to his name. Lucky number seven comes with his acclaimed performance in Giant , in which he plays one of his most complex characters yet, Roald Dahl .

"I am lucky enough to be enormously tall, bald, old, with a big lantern jaw! There was nobody else to play Roald Dahl . I was there for the workshop. I was there for the Royal Court run– my first time acting at the Royal Court," he explained. "For all of us, it's been just a marvelous voyage of discovery."

Four-time Tony nominated and Olivier Award-winning Best Play, GIANT, has recouped its $5.6 million Broadway capitalization just 10 weeks into its planned 16-week limited engagement on Broadway.

Giant, the new play starring John Lithgow as Roald Dahl, will be released in cinemas later this year. The Olivier Award-winning and Tony-nominated play was recorded at London’s Harold Pinter Theatre.

Following the Wednesday, May 20, 2026 7:30 PM ET performance of Giant on Broadway, starring John Lithgow, John Lithgow, Aya Cash, and Mark Rosenblatt will join a conversation with Taffy Brodesser-Akner hosted by 92NY.
