The show will feature Madison Young in the title role opposite Alessandro Frola as Des Grieux. Alessandro Cavallo will appear as Lescaut, with Rosa Pierro as Lescaut’s Mistress. Musical direction will be by Ermanno Florio.
Based on Abbé Prévost’s novel Histoire du Chevalier Des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut, Manon is widely regarded as one of MacMillan’s signature narrative ballets. The production follows the tragic romance between Manon and Des Grieux as they navigate a world divided by wealth and poverty.
“Manon is not so much afraid of being poor as ashamed of being poor. Poverty in that period was the equivalent of long, slow death,” MacMillan said of the work.
The production features choreography and staging by MacMillan, with sets and costumes by Peter Farmer . Rehearsal direction is by Gregory Mislin and Laura Morera.
