L-Acoustics’ New L1 Sound System Production Cuts Carbon Emissions by 30%

French loudspeaker manufacturer L-Acoustics has revealed the new L1 sound system for live venues. Touted by the brand as “the future of large-scale live sound,” the new line array is also an evolution for sustainability in sound for mass events.

Announced Thursday (May 21) and debuted at a splashy keynote presentation on Tuesday (May 19) at the Hollywood Bowl (where it will remain a permanent fixture), the L1 is 20% lighter and smaller than competing systems. The company reports that this will translate to a 20% decrease in transport cost, given that more L1 units can fit into trucks and storage.

Crucially, L-Acoustics produces 30% fewer carbon emissions when manufacturing the new L1 compared to products of equal power and performance. The entire production process for the new system also requires 40% less wood, 60% less metal and 50% less paint.

It’s good news for live crews, too, who will have an easier time setting up the line array. L Acoustics reports that the L1 design is three times faster to deploy, requiring 66% fewer rigging actions compared to the competition.

At the Hollywood Bowl keynote, L-Acoustics also unveiled another new product called Source Intelligence, a machine learning technology that, in real-time, minimizes the background noise picked up by a vocalist’s microphone, an issue commonly known as sound bleed. Source Intelligence is currently being used on  Harry Styles ‘ Together, Together Tour and Rosalía ‘s Lux Tour and will also be used for Benson Boone ‘s upcoming tour.

L-Acoustics is a key player in live sound. Its loudspeakers and systems can be spotted at the Coachella mainstage, Ultra Music Festival, the Super Bowl and countless other venues and mass gatherings around the world.
