Jimmy Kimmel  has called out  Larry David for refusing to sing along to ‘Hey Jude’ at a recent Paul McCartney  show.

The  Beatles  legend played  two intimate gigs at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles in March in front of star-studded audiences, including the likes of  Taylor Swift ,  Billie Eilish ,  Olivia Rodrigo , Stevie Nicks  and  Margot Robbie .

Two others in the room were Kimmel and David, and they discussed the experience during a recent episode of  Jimmy Kimmel Live  (June 18).

“I witnessed something at a Paul McCartney concert,” Kimmel said. “Two months ago, the whole audience was singing ‘Hey Jude’ along with Paul McCartney – with the notable exception of one person. And who do you guess that person was?”

David clipped back: “You know, everybody’s going, they’re standing and they’re swaying, and it is so lame, okay? You think I’m going to ‘na, na, na’? What kind of person do you think I am? I saw you ‘na, na, na’-ing. You didn’t look very cool, I can tell you that. But I don’t understand it. Why do people do that? What prompted you to ‘na, na, na’? Why would you do it?”

David went on to quip that McCartney was allowed to “na, na, na” as he wrote the song, but he did not feel obliged to follow his lead.

“Well, that’s where we disagree,” Kimmel hit back. “You have to listen to him. He wants this from us. We’ve given him nothing. He’s given us so much. Why wouldn’t you do a little ‘na, na, na’?”

“I’ve given him a little something,” David retorted.

“What did you give him? You didn’t even pay for those tickets, did you? You got those for free,” Kimmel replied.

“You think I would pay for that?” David answered. “You know, I just find the whole swaying thing, standing, so into it, I find it distasteful.”

The  Curb Your Enthusiasm   creator’s new show  Life, Larry And The Pursuit Of Unhappiness launches on  HBO on Friday (June 26). The seven-episode show will take a comic look at some of the major events of American history and will star David alongside Bill Hader, Kathryn Hahn, Jon Hamm, Sean Hayes, Jerry Seinfeld and Vince Vaughn, while  Barack Obama, who is a producer on the show, will also appear as himself in the show .

Announcing the show, David said: “Once  Curb  ended, I celebrated with a three-day foam party. After a violent allergic reaction to the suds, I yearned to return to my simple life as a beekeeper, harvesting organic honey from the wildflowers in my meadow. Alas, one day my bees mysteriously vanished. And so, it is with a heavy heart that I return to television, hoping to ease the loss of my beloved hive”.
