Lola Young has put out a new single, “From Down Here.”

It’s the first new music from the British pop singer-songwriter since she announced in September that she was temporarily stepping away from music, saying she was going to “work on myself.” Credited as “created with James Blake,” the lyrics of “From Down Here” ruminate on this self-reflective stage over an atmospheric, synth-y dreamscape: “And I know it’s not right/ To long for parts of that life/ But can I just reminisce tonight?/ Acting my age/ Turning the page/ But what a boring book it would’ve been anyway.”

Young’s meteoric rise in late 2024 came after her single “Messy,” from This Wasn’t Meant for You Anyways , went viral on social media and subsequently topped charts world-wide, setting the stage for global touring, festivals and an anticipated third album.

But her momentum sputtered after erratic and discouraging incidents at concerts, including running off stage momentarily at 2025 Coachella, seemingly sick, and equipment malfunctions at Summertime Ball in London. In July 2025, she canceled a performance on The Tonight Show. She has since discussed working with a sobriety coach that year.

Her third album, I’m Only Fucking Myself , was released in September 2025 and was heralded as emotionally authentic with pop sensibilities. But only days after its release, she canceled a New Jersey concert. The same month, she collapsed on stage at All Things Go NYC. Following the collapse, she announced her hiatus.

She returned to performing in January. In March, she told Rolling Stone she had been dealing with alcoholism and had gone into addiction treatment in 2025.

She won a Grammy in February for Best Pop Solo Performance, and returned to the stage for as a Best New Artist nominee to perform “Messy.” Young is scheduled to perform at All Things Go NYC in September as well as October’s Austin City Limits .
