Mark Hamill Deletes AI Photo of Trump in Grave After White House Criticism

Mark Hamill has received criticism from the White House for sharing an AI- generated depiction of US President Donald Trump dead.

The Star Wars legend, a vocal critic of the current administration, took to the social media site Bluesky to post an image of Trump lying deceased across a grave, with the caption “If Only”. Although deleted, screenshots of the post have circulated online.

The actor wrote above the image: “He should live long enough to witness his inevitable devastating loss in the midterms, be held accountable for his unprecedented corruption, impeached, convicted & humiliated for his countless crimes. Long enough to realize he’ll be disgraced in the history books, forevermore.”

A White House spokesperson called Hamill a “deranged lunatic” and called on former President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party to “condemn this disgusting call to violence”. The original post was subsequently deleted, with the actor sharing a clarification on his previous comments alongside an image of Trump with windswept hair.

“Accurate Edit for Clarity: ‘He should live long enough to…be held accountable for his…crimes.’” he wrote. “Actually, I was wishing him the opposite of dead, but apologize if you found the image inappropriate.” He followed that up with the original post’s text, this time without the AI image.

Mark Hamill has repeatedly criticised Trump in the past. In 2017, during the President’s first term, he read out the politician’s tweets in the voice of The Joker, his character from the ‘90s Batman animated series .

In 2024, he drew the ire of right-wing supporters for questioning a bandage Trump was wearing following the attempt on his life at an election rally. The same year, he re-shared one of Taylor Swift’s previous tweets criticising Trump , saying it has “aged remarkably well”.

Outside of politics, last year Hamill shared his pitch for what should have happened to Luke Skywalker between the films Return Of The Jedi and The Force Awakens . The darker interpretation saw the famous Jedi dealing with tragedy in his personal life, but it was ultimately rejected by the filmmakers.
