The film is scheduled to be released on October 1, 2027 and it will see  Robert Pattinson returning to the title role, with Reeves returning to direct, having overseen the original film in 2022.

Now, Reeves has shared what appears to be the first glimpse of the new film, posting on X an image of the Batmobile amid a flurry of snow, with the caption: “#SnowTires”. He did not provide any further information, but it would suggest that it will be set during a torrid winter.

James Gunn, who took over as the head of the revamped DC Universe after the first film was released,  has defended the five-year wait between the two films , urging fans not to be “entitled”. He has also confirmed that  Batman’s sidekick, Robin, will not be in the new film, despite rumours .

In April,  it emerged that  Games Of Thrones  star Charles Dance was in talks to join the cast in the role of Harvey Dent’s father . Dent himself will be portrayed by Sebastian Stan, with  Scarlett Johansson also attached to the project .

The Batman  and its sequel exist on a separate timeline from the new  DC Universe  that launched last summer with Gunn’s  Superman , starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan.

In January, Pattinson revealed how be made several tracks of as-yet-unreleased ambient music on the set of the first film, all while dressed as Batman. “During Batman, I made tons and tons of ambient electronic music,” he said . “I was in a tent the whole time, basically, whenever I was on a break on Batman, and I’ve got my headphones over the bat ears and I’m making electronic music on MPC with my vape, done up like Batman.”

In a four-star review of the first film ,  NME  wrote: “Other things that need to be mentioned include the score – Michael Giacchino’s doomy,  Nirvana -sampling soundtrack is Batman’s best yet – and the post-credits scene. We can’t tell you what happens in it (press embargoes are more closely monitored than the Bat-signal), but it sets up an exciting new Batverse. If his first foray is anything to go by, Pattinson should play a big part.”
