April showers bring May flowers in the latest edition of our Broadway watch guide, which spotlights the most noteworthy titles for Broadway fans to watch across the big and small screens.
This month features the return of Great Performances ' annual Broadway's Best series on PBS, which includes the filmed recordings of Suffs and Top Hat, as well as a concert from Tony-winner Nicole Scherzinger .
The beginning of the month sees the long-awaited arrival of The Devil Wears Prada 2, which also marks the screen debut of Maybe Happy Ending star Helen J. Shen . Streaming in May is Amadeus, the series adaptation of Peter Shaffer ’s award-winning stage play with Will Sharpe and Paul Bettany . On May 12, Netflix will debut Marty, Life Is Short, a new documentary about Tony Award-winning performer Martin Short .
Other theatrical releases include two film adaptations of stage plays: Aleshea Harris 's Is God Is, starring two-time Tony-winner Kara Young , and Pressure, the film version of David Haig 's play with Andrew Scott and Brendan Fraser .
As for music, May will see the release of Cinematic, the latest album from Josh Groban . The ten-song collection sees the Broadway alum cover songs from movies like The Godfather, The Lion King, and more. Tony Award-winning Broadway star John Gallagher Jr. will also release his new EP Almost OK this month.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 features the return of Meryl Streep , Anne Hathaway , Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci as their iconic characters, reuniting them with director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna . Find out what critics think in our review roundup .
New additions to the cast include Maybe Happy Ending star Helen J. Shen , along with Kenneth Branagh , Rachel Bloom , Patrick Brammall, Lucy Liu , Justin Theroux , B.J. Novak , Pauline Chalamet, Caleb Hearon, Simone Ashley, and Tibor Ravitz.
Great Performances will air the filmed recording of Suffs, the Broadway musical from Tony Award winner Shaina Taub . The capture was filmed during the show's original Broadway run, which opened in April 2024 and ran until January 2025. Tune in to watch on Friday, May 8, 9:00 p.m. ET on PBS.
Suffs tells the story of the American suffragist movement and the remarkable friendships, heartbreak, and action that brought women together, or, in some cases, tore them apart. The production stars Tony Award-winning book writer, composer, and lyricist Shaina Taub in the role of Alice Paul, making her only the second woman in history to write the book, music, lyrics and star in her own Broadway musical. She is also the first woman to ever independently win Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Score in the same season.
Suffs also stars Tony Award-winner Nikki M. James as Ida B. Wells, Tony Award-nominee Jenn Colella as Carrie Chapman Catt, Grace McLean as President Woodrow Wilson , Hannah Cruz as Inez Milholland, Kim Blanck as Ruza Wenclawska , Anastacia McCleskey as Mary Church Terrell, Ally Bonino as Lucy Burns, Tsilala Brock as Dudley Malone, Nadia Dandashi as Doris Stevens, and Tony Award-nominee Emily Skinner as Alva Belmont/Phoebe Burn.
Amadeus, the series adaptation of Peter Shaffer ’s award-winning stage play, will be available for US viewers this month, after its UK premiere last year. Amadeus tells of the rivalry between composers Mozart and Salieri, and features a cast led by Will Sharpe (Too Much, White Lotus) as musical prodigy Wolfgang “Amadeus” Mozart, Paul Bettany (Broadway's The Collaboration, WandaVision) as envious court composer Antonio Salieri , and Gabrielle Creevy (Three Women,” In My Skin) as Mozart’s wife, Constanze Weber.
After Amadeus arrives in 18th-century Vienna, Salieri vows to bring down the musical genius. What begins as professional rivalry turns into a deeply personal obsession spanning 30 years, culminating in a murder confession and a desperate attempt to entwine himself with Mozart’s legacy forever.
Couples Weekend is a dramedy starring Broadway alums Daveed Diggs , Josh Gad , and Ashley Park , along with The White Lotus star Alexandra Daddario . The movie follows two couples—Daddario & Diggs and Gad & Park—who embark on a weekend getaway to ring in the New Year.
After a tree falls in the woods, things begin to go awry, especially after Gad and Daddario witness infidelity from their respective partners. This, paired with a mysterious cocktail that strips away their inhibitions, leads the stay to begin its descent into chaos with a showdown of secrets, betrayals, and rapidly shifting loyalties.
The movie premiered at Tribeca Festival under the title "A Tree Fell in the Woods" and will arrive in theaters and on digital platforms on May 8, 2026, from Vertical. Check out BroadwayWorld's review of the film.
Marty, Life Is Short is a new documentary about Tony Award-winning performer Martin Short . A comic force of the stage and screen, the film will highlight Short's career through classic clips, fresh interviews and star-studded, never-before-seen home movies . The doc is directed by Lawrence Kasdan , whose directorial credits include Body Heat and The Big Chill, and executive-produced by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer .
Short has appeared on Broadway in the fictional autobiographical show Martin Short : Fame Becomes Me, The Goodbye Girl, and Little Me, which earned him a Tony Award. Onscreen, he is known for roles in movies like Three Amigos, Clifford, and Father of the Bride, along with his current role as theater director Oliver Putnum in Hulu's Only Murders in the Building.
Is God Is, Aleshea Harris 's film adaptation of her award-winning play, features a cast led by two-time Tony-winner Kara Young and Mallori Johnson . The plot follows twin sisters Anaia and Racine as they undertake a revenge journey from the Dirty South to the California desert, confronting a charged family history and seeking payback for their father for a horrendous act.
The cast also includes Janelle Monáe, Erika Alexander , Sterling K. Brown , Mykelti Williamson , Josiah Cross, and Vivica A. Fox. Harris' play premiered at Soho Rep in 2018, earning three Obie awards, including Best Play and Best Director.
This May will see the premiere of Top Hat, the stage musical inspired by the 1935 movie starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers . The plot follows a Broadway performer whose romantic pursuits lead to comedic misunderstandings.
The revival is directed and choreographed by three-time Tony-winner Kathleen Marshall and features a score by Irving Berlin , with classic songs such as “Cheek to Cheek,” “Let’s Face the Music and Dance,” and “Puttin’ on the Ritz.” Top Hat will premiere Friday, May 15, 9:00 p.m. ET on PBS.
For this concert, Tony Award-winner Nicole Scherzinger returned to London for the Royal Albert Hall show, which showcased the former 'Pussycat Doll' singer's pop hits alongside a range of Broadway classics. This concert marked her first major solo show in the UK in 13 years and her first full show at the Royal Albert Hall. It will air on Friday, May 22, at 9:00 p.m. ET on PBS.
The concert performance followed her celebrated turn as Norma Desmond in Andrew Lloyd Webber 's Sunset Boulevard, where she received international acclaim in London's West End and on Broadway for starring in the reimagining from director Jamie Lloyd . The portrayal garnered Scherzinger both an Olivier and a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.
Sofia the First: Royal Magic, the new series set in the world of Sofia the First, will premiere Monday, May 25, on Disney Jr. (7:00 a.m. EDT/PDT) and Disney Jr. on Demand, with the first eight episodes available to stream on Disney+ the next day.
Moana, Rapunzel, Jasmine, Cinderella, Aurora, and Elena of Avalor will make special appearances throughout the series, offering Sofia guidance, wisdom, and support. Broadway alum Auli‘i Cravalho will reprise her role as Moana, with Ariel Winter returning as the voice of Sofia.
The recurring cast also includes Beanie Feldstein as Wildfyre, Yvette Nicole Brown as Lady Saddlespur, James Monroe Iglehart as Lord Primrose, Jeremy Swift as Mr. Muddykins, and Tony Hale as Mimsy Fizzlewick. Reprising their roles from the original series are Wayne Brady as Clover, Tim Gunn as Baileywick, Eric Stonestreet as Minimus, Sara Ramirez as Queen Miranda, Travis Willingham as King Roland, Darcy Rose Byrnes as Amber, and Jess Harnell as Cedric.
The Four Seasons will return to Netflix with Season 2 on Thursday, May 28, 2026. Returning series regulars include Tina Fey , Will Forte , Kerri Kenney-Silver, Marco Calvani , Just in Time star Erika Henningsen , and Tony Award-nominated Colman Domingo . Broadway alum Steven Pasquale is also set to star in the new recurring role of Mark Brett.
From co-creators Tina Fey , Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield , the second season of the comedy series consists of eight all-new episodes, which once again follow six friends on four different vacations over the course of a year.
Pressure is the new film adaptation of David Haig 's play starring Andrew Scott and Brendan Fraser . The movie takes place 72 hours before D-Day in 1944, with the fate of the free world hanging in the balance as General Dwight D. Eisenhower and Meteorological Officer James Stagg navigate a potential weather risk.
In addition to Brendan Fraser and Andrew Scott , the cast includes Kerry Condon as Captain Kay Summersby , with Chris Messina and Damian Lewis as Colonel Irving P. Krick and British Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery, respectively.
The movie is directed by Anthony Maras from a screenplay he co-wrote with Haig. The stage version of Pressure made its world premiere at The Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh in 2014.
The world premiere recording of We Shall Someday, the new musical with book and lyrics by Harrison David Rivers and music and additional lyrics by Ted Shen , is now available on digital platforms. The cast album is produced by Deborah Abramson , who also serves as music director and conductor. Two-time Tony Award winner Michael Starobin provides orchestrations.
With a jazz-infused score, We Shall Someday is an original musical following three generations of a southern Black family, as they each encounter and confront acts of racial injustice. Offering an exploration of our past to propel us forward with conviction and hope, the musical examines the ongoing fight for freedom and justice.
The album features performances by John Edwards (Broadway’s MJ: The Musical, Jelly’s Last Jam at Encores!, Smokey Joe’s Café revival), Cole Thompson (Broadway’s Into the Woods, Off-Broadway’s White Rose: The Musical), Danyel Fulton (Suffs National Tour, Drama League nominee for Broadbend, Arkansas), and Jake Loewenthal (Signature Theatre’s Ragtime, Into the Woods, She Loves Me).
We Shall Someday has been performed at Theater Latté Da in Minneapolis, MN, as a concert presentation at the Signature Theatre in Washington, D.C. and last year as part of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival .
