A post emerged in recent days purporting to be from the  Morrissey Central   blog, the site on which the singer and former  Smiths frontman regularly posts. Titled ‘The Malefactors’, it contained a long list of public figures, with the suggestion that it came from Morrissey himself and was a way for him to get back at his enemies.

It was shared far and wide, but has now been taken down, with the satirical Instagram account MozPosting admitting that they were behind it. They revealed that Morrissey’s team had contacted them and requested its removal due to “copyright infringement and impersonation”.

It comes just days after  Morrissey opened up about his ongoing legal case against nine people allegedly involved in online identity fraud against him . He said the people behind the scams were urging followers to “actively join factions and movements advocating various political ideas” and claimed that one of the nine individuals had “connections to an ex-member of The Smiths”.

The ‘Malefactors’ post included a parade of figures from music, politics and public life, including  Johnny Marr  (three times),  Machine Gun Kelly , Edward Cullen,  IDLES ’ Joe Talbot, Kneecap ’s Mo Chara, Canada, Nigel Farage, Oldplay and Lisa Simpson.

The full list is: “Johnny Marr, Princess Diana, Keir Starmer, Anthony Kiedis, Elton John, Aubrey Drake Graham, Lisa Simpson, Donald Trump, Thom Yorke, Damon Albarn, Taylor Swift, Zendaya, Katy Perry, Jack Black, Machine Gun Kelly, Edward Cullen, Popeye, A very judgemental garden gnome named Clive, Jamie Oliver, Keanu Reeves, Ryan Reynolds, Snoop Dogg, Bruce Springsteen, Willem Dafoe, Brian Cox, Meryl Streep, Bigfoot, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Kate Bush, Duran Duran, Noel Gallagher, Canada, Lucio, Nigel Farage, Oldplay, Johnny Marr, Ronald McDonald, Alex Turner, John Cena, David Attenborough, Paul Rudd, Stephen King, Cher, Rowan Atkinson, Stevie Nicks, Jeff Goldblum, Gordon Ramsay, Stanley Tucci, Björk, Donna Noble, Mitski, TV Girl, Tame Impala, Alex G, Chris Pratt, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jennifer Coolidge, Tilda Swinton, Peter Hook, Mike Mills, Elon Musk, Justin Bieber, The Blue Album, John Gilman, Steven Patrick Morrissey, Charli XCX, Johnny Marr, Sam Browne, Elijah Wood, Siouxsie Sioux, Sam Altman, J.K. MozPosting issued a statement explaining why they had deleted the post. “This account is and has always been intended as satire, and the post was a parody, but I don’t want to create any unnecessary issues,” they wrote. “Thank you to everyone who enjoyed the joke while it lasted.”

> A) it’s probably not me (filmmaker Mike Mills?) B) I think it’s supposed to be funny, and it actually is. Canada? All of it? https://t.co/ESgIhAokPd — Sweet Daddy Cool (@m_millsey) June 13, 2026

One of the figures on the list is Mike Mills, the former  R.E.M. bassist, and the list was brought to his attention on X on Saturday (June 13). He took the reference lightly, responding: “A) it’s probably not me (filmmaker Mike Mills?) B) I think it’s supposed to be funny, and it actually is. Canada? All of it?”

As well as the R.E.M. musician, Mike Mills is also the name of the celebrated director behind  20 th  Century Women ,  C’mon C’mon  and  Beginners .

Morrissey released his 14th solo album ‘ Make-Up Is A Lie ’ in March via Sire Records, and has gone on to  announce a European headline tour to take place over the summer .

He has also  confirmed plans for a UK tour , set to take place in December. Those shows do not include any London stops, and come on the heels of the singer playing  what had been previously billed as his only UK concert of the year at The O2 in London in February .

He also cancelled multiple shows in the US earlier this year, citing “artist illness” and an “adverse reaction to a prescription medication” . He then  axed a live date in Valencia last month “due to sleep deprivation” .

In other news,  Morrissey has claimed responsibility for the initial idea for the iconic photograph of The Smiths taken outside Salford Lads Club , and corrected  Johnny Marr about the history of the band signing with Rough Trade.

He has also been announced as  one of the headline acts for this year’s CBGB Festival in New York in September , alongside the likes of  Patti Smith ,  Interpol  and  Sex Pistols featuring Frank Carter .
