New Music Friday Features Porches, Kesha, and More
Friday brings a fresh collection of new songs, including releases from Porches, Kesha, Allison Russell, ear, The Last Dinner Party, Navy Blue, and Bodega, among others.

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out . We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
ALLISON RUSSELL – “COLD APRIL” (FT. DENITIA, KARA JACKSON & THE EXPLORE! POP CHOIR)
Allison Russell announced her third album, In The Hour of Chaos , due out July 10 via Fantasy Records. She’s shared “Cold April,” featuring Kara Jackson, Denitia, and the Explore! Pop Choir, saying, “Things are rough. Things have been rough before. Cold April is not laying out the grim facts of the moment. Cold April asks if we can let the music itself restore and recharge us. The act of singing with my sisters, Kara Jackson and Denitia, is a balm for my soul, and a wind at my back to keep on. And my daughter Ida’s Explore! Pop Choir?!… Let them tell it: “Calling all birds from across the nation, yeah we got a brand new murmuration, we don’t have to fly in that, old formation, no” Youth – and Love – will be served!

NAVY BLUE – “OCEAN LIGHT (PHASE 1: PRELUDE)”
“This song serves as the opening of the record, moving swiftly through a tormented upbringing to the first glimpse of my personal purpose,” Navy Blue says of his new single. “It’s about recognizing light for the first time, even while carrying the weight of everything that came before.”

THE LAST DINNER PARTY – “BIG DOG” & “COME ALL YOU BEASTS”
The Last Dinner Party have been performing “Big Dog” for a while, and they’ve now shared a studio version, along with a spoken word piece that they often recite ahead of it. Of the latter, Georgia Davies says, “‘Come All You Beasts’ was written as a way to introduce the folkloric and storytelling elements of From the Pyre to ‘Big Dog.’ The themes of the song were interpolated with Bible verses, subverting prescriptive messages about women’s safety. We have always been inspired by poetry and performance in all forms, so spoken word with improvisational accompaniment felt like a natural extension of our art.”

FRANKIE COSMOS – “FOOL” (DEMO)
Frankie Cosmos has released a 10 year anniversary reissue of her 2016 album Next Thing , which includes this previously unreleased original demo of “Fool.” “Listening back to Next Thing is a swirl of emotions,” she says. “I remember friends, crushes, bands, love, heartbreak, myself. This is the first album I’d ever made with a 4 piece band. I can really hear the impact each of my then-bandmates had on the recordings. We played these songs a lot live before recording the album. I remember where I was when I wrote most of these songs. The confusion of being in my late teens and early twenties, and the psychic pain of trying to figure out who I was and how to express myself, while managing the visions other people had for me.”

SHE’S GREEN – “EMPTY HOUSE”
she’s green’s new EP Swallowtail arrives in July, and the latest single is the dreamy, melancholy “empty house.” “’empty house”’is a metaphor for the beauty of life’s impermanence,” bandleader Zofia Smith says. “It pictures your body as an empty house, a place in constant wear and repair, where things come and go—people, memories, and pieces of ourselves.”
—
KESHA – “ORIGAMI!”
Ahead of her “The Freedom Tour,” which starts this month, Kesha has shared “ORIGAMI!,” the first track of her “new freedom era.” “‘ORIGAMI!’ is a celebration of sex,” she says, “wherever and with whoever you choose to have it with! It’s about embracing freedom and self-love that we all deserve.”

BODEGA – “PICK UP THE CHECK”
Bodega have shared the first taste of their new album, details of which are still to come. “Pick Up the Check” is “is set at an imagined date at a faux fancy restaurant w/ art deco wallpaper and fish-tank ambiance,” says guitarist/singer Ben Hozie. “I know too many friends who tolerate unfulfilling relationships (either romantic, platonic, artistic, or business) out of politeness or fear of letting others down. You don’t have to. The real danger of spending time w/ people who don’t inspire is how their way of being rubs off on your mind and personae. Strike the set, rewrite the draft, and pick up the (metaphorical) check.”

PORCHES – “HABBIT”
Aaron Maine will release a new Porches mixtape, titled Mask , next week and here’s a preview. He says: “I recorded ‘MASK’ on my four track last spring (2025) in the basement on Wooster Street in New York City. I mixed it straight off the tape machine. I was inspired by how impossible it is to really edit anything on the four track, and I feel like a special spirit was captured in these recordings by embracing their imperfections. I wanted to share them in their rawest form to keep that energy I felt intact.”
