On Friday (May 22), the Grammy-winning pop sensation unleashed the second official single from her upcoming third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love . Written by Rodrigo alongside longtime collaborator Dan Nigro, “The Cure” dropped alongside its official music video, which finds the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series alum exploring a vintage, pastel-streaked hospital.

“The Cure” — which boasts lyrics like “Why can’t you come stitch me up?” and “It’ll never be the cure,” as per her Los Angeles murals — arrives a few weeks after Rodrigo pulled double duty on Saturday Night Live (May 2). In addition to showing off her comedic cops, she performed two songs from her forthcoming album: lead single “Drop Dead” and a still-unreleased album track titled “Begged.”

Notably, Rodrigo linked up with Robert Smith of The Cure during her 2025 Glastonbury headlining set . The duo performed Cure classics like “Friday I’m in Love” and “Just Like Heaven,” with Smith later telling British Vogue , “She calls me up quite a bit to talk about clothes and fashion – and we have enjoyed a couple of memorable nights in the studio together… I can’t wait to hear what she does next!”

“Drop Dead” landed on April 17 as the first taste of You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love . The synth-pop-infused track entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 1, marking Rodrigo’s fourth chart-topper on the all-genre ranking following 2021’s “Drivers License” and “Good 4 U,” as well as 2023’s “Vampire.” Featuring songwriting contributions from Amy Allen, who’s won the songwriter of the year, non-classical Grammy for the past two years, “Drop Dead” also reached No. 1 on the Global 200 .

Rodrigo will support You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love with the Unraveled Tour, which will consist of 86 dates across Europe and North America. Beginning on Sep. 5 in Hartford, Conn., the tour will visit several iconic arenas and major cities before concluding on May 10, 2027, in London. The Last Dinner Party, Grace Ives, Devon Again, Die Spitz and Wolf Alice will support on select dates.
