LA duo Paycheque

I liked " Generic Actress ," the lead single from Paycheque's self-titled debut album, and I like new single "Temporary Love" even more. Here, the LA duo is doing a funky, lo-fi take on a dead-eyed '80s pop fantasy, like Chromatics crossed with Men I Trust. It's magnificent, and I can imagine it bringing me refreshment in the summer heat. Jorge Elbrecht mixed this, and as Paycheque explain in their statement, Jane Penny from TOPS was involved:
This was one of the first songs we ever started writing together, and it was the last one we finished for the record. Jane Penny from TOPS came over to our house and graciously contributed some flute and background vocals to this song, and that really helped tie it together. This song is about embracing impermanence. We think this song has a bit of a city pop flavor in terms of the arrangement and nods heavily to YMO with the vocoder backing vocals on the chorus.
You know what, there is some city pop in there now that they mention it. Below, watch the "Temporary Love" video, directed by Paycheque's Alison Goldfarb.
