Showcasing bold and socially resonant storytelling, the festival runs from 2 May to 5 June at Theatre Peckham and Canada Water Theatre, bringing together theatre, dance, comedy and spoken word reflecting the diversity and lived experiences of South London.

This year's festival opened Theatre Peckham's 40th anniversary year, marking four decades since the organisation was founded in 1986 as New Peckham Varieties – a small community arts project that has grown into one of South London's most distinctive cultural venues.

The opening weekend saw nearly 400 audience members attending WITNESS in Theatre Peckham's Main Theatre, alongside a sold-out run of Pack It Up in the Studio. Audience numbers have remained buoyant during the first weeks of the festival, with strong engagement.

Each individual show has been a success in its own right, with countless highlights. Opening the festival, WITNESS was a stage adaptation of the award-winning author Alex Wheatle's novel, created as part of the Alex Wheatle Witness Project for Young Actors. Directed by Theatre Peckham's Artistic Director Suzann McLean , this powerful performance highlighted identity, family and social responsibility, setting the tone for a season dedicated to stories of belonging, resilience and self-discovery. The production was well-received with reviews stating “Peckham Fringe returns, and its first show is a hit” (The Reviews Hub) and “McLean/Fielding are eminent custodians of this work, bringing detailed layers in their poignant production”, with audience members sharing their reactions as “Intense, visceral and real” and “gritty, hard-hitting drama”.

Another production to receive critical acclaim for its power and uncompromising storytelling was Kaci Kerwick's Republic of Silence. Based on true stories from the Sean Ross Mother and Baby Institution in Tipperary, the show explored the realities experienced within Ireland's mother and baby homes. Theatre and Art Reviews praised the production as “thought-provoking and uncomfortable at times…the truth deserves to be exposed.”

Mo Korede's Our Father - a powerful exploration of legacy, faith, and the complicated love between fathers and their children, received a 4-star review from Come Theatre with Me, which described the production as “intimate, raw, touching and incredibly powerful. It is a very intense and heavy watch but so beautifully portrayed.”

A proud moment for Theatre Peckham, highlighting the impact the venue has had in developing young artists over many years, was the run of Marcos Byrne's play, Hello My Name Is… Marcos, who is 16 years old was the winner of the Royal Court Young Writer's Award 2025 and is the youngest writer to have their work performed at Peckham Fringe. Marcos and the show's producer Joe Bernstein have been part of the Theatre Peckham community for many years, appearing together in The House Fairy in 2018, and attending the Theatre Peckham Academy. Reviews recognised the talent shining through: “the sheer quality of the writing and acting makes it impossible not to be impressed” (Everything Theatre).

Suzann McLean MBE, CEO and Artistic Director of Theatre Peckham, said: “Peckham Fringe is about opening doors for artists at every stage, and for voices too often pushed to the margins. Now in our fifth year, the 2026 programme is fearless and expansive, championing bold storytelling that digs into identity, community and social justice. These shows speak across generations and amplify lived experience. This is where ambition, representation and creative freedom collide.”

There is a packed programme of shows in the Peckham Fringe line-up including Georgia Johnston's TRUTHERS investigating the suspicious death of a man entangled in online conspiracy groups, Joe Haddad 's coming of age semi-autobiographical solo show PalesTEENian about an aspiring comedian and Chelsea Fan growing up Palestinian in South London, Malachi Antonio's Convo in which an estranged mother and son confront trauma, truth, and love publicly, Gloria Akpoke's Romeo Must Die in which a modern tragedy unfolds in Manchester, and Barney Herrin's The World Class Wrecking Crew about graffiti, fatherhood and why the two don't really mix.

Founded in 1986, Theatre Peckham is a multi-award-winning cultural venue for artistic excellence and social change. The charity provides training and performance opportunities for underrepresented communities, producing work that pushes creative boundaries and speaks directly to hyper-local audiences. For four decades the organisation has championed access and equity in the arts, supporting artists to discover their creative voice. Forty years on, Theatre Peckham remains a place where new voices are discovered and artists at every stage are supported to create ambitious work and shape long-term creative careers.

Celebrating a new community partnership for this year, Theatre Peckham is delighted that the local pub Prince of Peckham is the Official Partner for Peckham Fringe 2026. Peckham Fringe ticket-holders can enjoy 25% off pre-show food from 4–7pm throughout the festival.
