Phil Collins to Skip Rock Hall Induction, Eyes Future Live Performances
Music icon Phil Collins, citing improved health, confirmed he will not perform at the November Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. However, he did not discount the possibility of playing live again in the future.
Phil Collins will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for the second time in November, but the music icon won’t perform at the Los Angeles ceremony.
Having previously been inducted as a member of Genesis, this time the singer-drummer is going into the Rock Hall as a solo artist. In a new chat with BBC Breakfast , he revealed that he’s not performing at the event, which isn’t surprising considering the myriad of health issues he’s battled in recent years.
When asked by host Charlotte Gallagher whether he might perform at the Rock Hall ceremony, Collins responded, “I can’t really see it happening, but I’m healthier now than I have been for quite a while. I mean, this Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, they asked me if I would perform, and I said, ‘No,’ cause you have to be match-fit to do something like that. You’re gonna have to rehearse, and by that point, if you’ve not been singing, your voice is gonna be shot. And then that’s not gonna be good, so I rather not do it.”

Collins then left things open as to performing live again in any capacity, saying, “But whether I would go out again, I would contemplate, yeah. I mean I’m constantly saying to myself I’ve gotta go back down to my studio at home.”

The music legend went on to say that he has a lot of material for potential new music, noting, “I’ve got lots of lyrical ideas that I write down, and there are things that are half-formed and a couple of things that are finished.”
