The program will feature singer, actress, producer, and writer Gabrielle Lee alongside musical director and pianist Robert Lamont . Through live performance and historical storytelling, the event will examine the relationship between Tin Pan Alley and the New York stage, focusing on the contributions of Black composers, lyricists, publishers, and performers between 1890 and 1910.
The evening will highlight the emergence of Black-owned publishing houses on West 28th Street and the Broadway productions that helped establish this music within the American popular song tradition.
