PWHL Expands to Hamilton, New Team to Play at TD Coliseum
The Professional Women’s Hockey League is expanding to Hamilton, Ontario, with a new team set to debut for the 2026-2027 season. The team will play at TD Coliseum.

TD Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario, is set to become home of the newest Professional Women’s Hockey League Team, set to debut for the 2026-2027 season.
Officials from PWHL, venue operator Oak View Group and other local leaders gathered yesterday at the arena to officially introduce PWHL Hamilton. Oak View Group is parent company to Pollstar.
“Hamilton and the surrounding Golden Horseshoe region have helped shape generations of girls’ and women’s hockey players, and today’s celebration reflected just how deeply this community cares about the game,” said Jayna Hefford, Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations, PWHL. “From the young players, community and business leaders who joined us on stage today to the fans who packed TD Coliseum during our Takeover Tour, this region has made it clear that it is ready to rally around a PWHL team of its own. We’re grateful to Oak View Group and the City of Hamilton for their partnership and support in helping bring the highest level of women’s hockey to Hamilton.”
Youth hockey groups in attendance included and sharing remarks included Ancaster Avalanche Girls Hockey Association, Hamilton Hawks Girls Hockey Association, Stoney Creek Sabres Girls Hockey Association and Flamborough Falcons Girls Hockey Association.
“Welcoming the PWHL’s newest team to Hamilton marks another important milestone in our growing partnership with the league and reflects the continued momentum behind women’s sports as a powerhouse business and community driver,” said Amy Latimer, Chief Business Officer, Oak View Group. “The PWHL is building a hockey league that is both world-class and deeply connected to its fans. We’re thrilled to welcome PWHL Hamilton to TD Coliseum and create a home where this team and community can thrive.”
Morgan Firestone Arena was announced as the team’s training and practice facility, with a commitment to support the team’s needs while creating new opportunities for community connection and engagement through sport.
“The PWHL’s expansion into Hamilton and TD Coliseum marks an exciting milestone for both women’s hockey and the local community,” said Nick DeLuco, Senior Vice President and General Manager, TD Coliseum. “The team’s presence will do more than elevate the game on the ice, it will unite fans and inspire the next generation of hockey players across the region. We’re grateful to the City of Hamilton for its partnership in helping create a dedicated, high-performance training facility that will support the team’s long-term success.”
Hamilton, Ontario, joins Las Vegas and Detroit as part of the rapidly expanding PWHL’s 2026 expansion class. They build on existing markets of Boston, Minnesota, Montréal, New York, Ottawa, Seattle, Toronto and Vancouver.
The announcement also follows the news that TD Coliseum would gain an AHL team , the New York Islanders affiliate, for the 2026-2027 season.
TD Coliseum opened in the fall as a full rebuild of the old Copps Coliseum, a $300 million overhaul with new club spaces, concourse, artist lounges and seating bowl. Since opening with a sold-out concert by Paul McCartney in November, t he 18,500-capaicty arena has upcoming concerts with The Guess Who, Carin Leon, Ella Langley, Melanie Martinez, Bryan Adams and many others into the summer.
