Russell Crowe Calls Tense Fan Encounter "Clickbait"

Russell Crowe has commented on a viral encounter with fans in Paris, dismissing it as “clickbait”.

Yesterday (May 25), the actor was captured on video as he interacted with a group of autograph-hunters as he was leaving his hotel and heading to the airport.

As seen in footage shared by  TMZ , he spoke in a low voice to the members of the public to say: “Are you listening? Stay where you are, don’t fucking push in on me and I’ll come to you. Give everybody space. As soon as somebody’s a dick, I’m going. Copy? Clear?”

He proceeded to sign a selection of autographs, and when one asked if he would sign his image with the name Maximus, he briefly retorted: “No”.

Crowe himself quote-tweeted the  TMZ  post to reply: “Clickbait. Everybody got their autograph and selfie, the passage to the hotel was kept free for guests, and I still got to the airport on time. One man, no security. Handled. What’s your problem?”

Elsewhere,  Crowe spoke last year about why he believes  Gladiator II  is inferior to the original . He only featured in the sequel in archival footage, and he called it “a really unfortunate example of even the people in that engine room not actually understanding what made the first one special. It wasn’t the pomp, it wasn’t the circumstance. It wasn’t the action. It was the moral core.”

Crowe reportedly wanted to be brought back for an earlier version of the sequel , which was being penned by  Nick Cave , but according to  Ridley Scott , Crowe concluded that Cave’s version of the story was “no fucking good” and “didn’t really work”.

In 2024,  it emerged that Crowe had helped with the surgery costs of a stunt coordinator who worked with him on  Gladiator  and other projects.  “He’s been kind to me in so many ways,” Charlie Allan said in an interview. “I never ask Russell for anything.”
