Last night (May 19) gaming giant Embracer announced it would be splitting into two different studios next year. The new Fellowship Entertainment will look after the Tomb Raider and Lord Of The Rings franchises but will also launch a new IP licensing branch that will let external partners use its catalogue to create new games and films.

“We see great potential to invest our own capital in, and form new partnerships for our largest other AAA IPs, such as Kingdom Come: Deliverance , Dead Island , Darksiders , Remnant and the licensed Metro series,” Lars Wingefors, chair of the board of Embracer Group, said in a letter to investors (via Video Games Chronicle ).

“Apart from the largest IPs, we will more actively be exploring external partnerships around our roster of other well-known IPs such as Saints Row , Legacy Of Kain , Deus Ex , Red Faction, The Mask, Thief, TimeSplitters amongst many others.” No firm plans have been announced yet, but fans are hopeful they might see some of their favourite franchises get revived after an uncertain few years.

Back in 2021, some of the original creators of chaotic shooter TimeSplitters relaunched their Free Radical studio to work on a new game , but Embracer scrapped the project after two years as part of a company-wide restructuring program.

TimeSplitters co-creator Steve Ellis said the closure of Free Radical was “probably the end” of him being involved in the franchise . “I don’t know what it would take to get me to want to go through all that again. It was a big letdown.” However he did reveal that he’d been approached several times about remastering the original games.

And last year Chris Stockman, the design director of 2006’s Saints Row , told Embracer he was interested in returning to the franchise after they shut down the studio that made the game in 2023. “I can bring much of the old band back together who worked on Saints Row 1 . I could turn that IP around with a decent budget. They don’t even have to fund it. I could get other outside people to fund it. I could turn the franchise around. I know I could,” he said. After that, he revealed he’d been approached about a potential prequel game .

Following the news of Embracer’s planned restructuring Warhorse Studios, the team being Kingdom Come: Deliverance , confirmed they were working on a third game in the series alongside a brand new Lord Of The Rings open-world role-playing game.
