I QUIT! is a genre-bending solo performance combining original music, multimedia elements, character work, and comedic storytelling. Each job in Ditto's real history becomes its own theatrical world, told through a different musical genre and visual language, creating a fragmented but emotionally cohesive portrait of ambition, burnout, and self-invention.
The show spans a surreal autobiographical arc: from working in the Mississippi cornfields to cleaning up crap (literally) in a movie theater to serving celebrities on a private jet to navigating unemployment and creative rejection while trying to build a career in comedy. Across these shifting environments, quitting becomes both a punchline and a survival mechanism.
At its core, I QUIT! examines what happens when a person repeatedly leaves environments that diminish them, while still questioning whether leaving is a failure or an act of self-preservation. The work moves between heightened absurd comedy and vulnerable confession, ultimately reframing "quitting" as a form of authorship over one's own life.
Speaking on the creation of the show, Sam Ditto says: "Every time I quit something, I thought I was proving I couldn't stick with anything. But in hindsight, I was actually building a life through trial and error. This show is basically me trying to turn all my worst jobs, worst thoughts, and weirdest moments into something I could finally own."
Sam Ditto is a comedy writer and performer whose sketch work has accumulated over 300 million online views. She is currently a writer on a UCB Maude sketch team, One Man's Trash, and is a graduate of California State University Northridge's Cinema & Television Arts program. I QUIT! marks her world premiere solo work.
I QUIT! is written and performed by Sam Ditto, directed by Gaby Sandoval, with original music by Sterling Gavinski and lyrics by Sam Ditto.
The production also incorporates multimedia sequences, original genre-hopping musical numbers, and a recurring internal "Barbie" voice that functions as both fantasy and self-interrogation, reflecting the tension between idealized identity and lived reality.
Performances will run June 6 @ 6:30pm, June 11 @ 7pm, June 17 @ 9pm, June 20 @ 2:30pm and June 28 @ 1pm and will take place at the Madnani Theater located at 6760 Lexington Ave, Los Angeles, CA. The runtime is 45 minutes. Tickets can be purchased at the Hollywood Fringe website.
