A new musical fueled by the music of The Tragically Hip. Featuring iconic songs from one of Canada’s most beloved bands, this original musical tells a moving story of identity, belonging, and second chances. When an exiled journalist arrives in Canada, an unexpected connection changes everything in this powerful and deeply human journey.
Originally developed by and produced at Theatre Aquarius, Mary Francis Moore, Artistic Director; Kelly Straughan, Executive Director in partnership with Thousand Islands Playhouse, Brett Christopher, Managing Artistic Director, in 2026, co-produced with support from The National Arts Centre and its National Creation Fund with further development at The Creative School Chrysalis at Toronto Metropolitan University.
Rooted in a deep commitment to exploring Jewish identity through the arts, the Segal Centre continues to champion programming that celebrates its stories, artists, and cultural voices. The Dora Wasserman Yiddish Theatre (DWYT), the Segal’s resident company, also returns this season with the much-loved holiday tradition Lyrics & Latkes: A Chanukah Sing-Along, bringing audiences together in a joyful celebration of culture, language, and shared heritage.

A love story between who you were and who you’re forced to become Set in 1890s New York, this powerful play with music explores the immigrant experience with urgency and emotional depth. Based on the landmark film, Hester Street examines identity, ambition, and survival in a rapidly changing world—resonating just as strongly today.
