Smashing Pumpkins, Chris Stapleton, Queen Latifah to Headline LA’s July 4

Smashing Pumpkins and Chris Stapleton will top “America’s Block Party” at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum July 4 in an event hosted by Queen Latifah to mark the 250th anniversary of the country’s independence.

The event is being presented by America250, the nonprofit group charged by Congress to coordinate celebrations of the Semiquincentennial. The group is separate from Freedom250, which was created by President Donald Trump via executive order in December and is the body that planned the Great American State Fair on the National Mall and announced a concert of its own — featuring, among others, Martina McBride, Young MC and Poison’s Brett Michaels — before most of the announced acts pulled out due to what was seen as the partisan nature of the event.

The LA concert, with tickets priced at $17.76, will promote “Giving 4th,” America250’s charitable initiative. Tickets will go on sale on June 16 at 10 a.m. PDT at America250.org/LA. All proceeds after fees donated to supporting Feeding America.

“As we celebrate our 250th anniversary, we have an opportunity to bring Americans together around the values that continue to unite us.” said Rosie Rios, Chair of America250. “Giving back represents the best part of the American spirit, and through Giving 4th, we’re aiming to establish a new, nationwide season of giving, anchored around July 4.”

More performers will be announced in the coming weeks.

Block party events are also planned for Charleston, South Carolina; Ft. Campbell, Kentucky; New York City and Milwaukee. The City of Philadelphia is hosting its own event which includes Christina Aguilera, Will Smith, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Jill Scott, the Roots, Seal and Wanda Sykes.
