SNL Season 51 Wraps: Ashley Padilla

That’s a wrap on Season 51 of Saturday Night Live , and the trackers at Saturday Night Network have updated their final sketch counts . Will Ferrell rose up the all-time leaderboard, Kenan Thompson extended his seemingly-unbeatable record, and James Austin Johnson tied a mark for presidential impersonations previously set by Darrell Hammond. But the biggest story, as we covered earlier in the season, is the rise of Ashley Padilla .

Padilla led all cast members by appearing in 92 sketches according to SNN’s methodology — 10 more than second-place Sarah Sherman. Padilla is a featured player, not even part of the main cast, but a string of viral moments and a smitten writer’s room turned the second-year actor into a star. Here’s hoping she gets paid this offseason.

With his appearance in the Season 51 finale, Ferrell upped his all-time total to 781 segments, passing Amy Poehler and putting him in 8th place in SNL history. Meanwhile, Kenan Thompson continues to pad his lead, which has grown to 1845 segments, well clear of second-place Phil Hartman and nearly double third-place Cecily Strong.

In other milestones, Mikey Day, who appeared in 81 sketches this season, notched his 200th episode. And James Austin Johnson (78 sketches) appeared in 14 episodes as President Donald Trump, tying Hammond’s 14-episode run as President Bill Clinton in Season 23.
