A spin-off from the beloved Like A Dragon series of games, Stranger Than Heaven is set to launch later this year.
A new cast and story trailer was revealed earlier this week which also gave fans their first taste of the game’s official theme ‘Stranger Than Heaven’. The track features Snoop Dogg, and Tori Kelly alongside Japanese musicians Satoshi Fujihara and Ado . “The main theme is a luxurious collaboration that’s so extravagant it’s almost beyond comprehension,” Ado explained on X. Check out the track below:
All four musicians will also star in the game. Snoop Dogg will voice Orpheus, Tori Kelly plays Kelly Day, Ado will play Keiko Shirai while Satoshi Fujihara will portray Takashi.
Stranger Than Heaven is described as “a fifty-year, action-adventure saga of men with nowhere to go and their desperate struggle to find a home. Use extreme violence to survive, and musical talent to thrive as a showman across five cities and eras of modern Japan.”
The game is set over a period of 50 years and will take place in five different cities “each modelled after real locations of their respective eras”. They are Fukuoka (1915), Hiroshima (1929) Osaka (1943), Shizuoka (1951) and Tokyo (1965).
The game might promise players plenty of violence but protagonist Makato also takes on the role of a showman, putting on concerts throughout Japan. “In order to get these shows off the ground, Makoto must gather rumours from the streets and use them to scout skilled singers and performers,” explained developers. “He can then head out into town to create new music—collecting any and every sound he can find: the swish of a broom, snoring of a sleepy neighbour, the rumble of passing trains, distant animal cries, even the grunts and growls of the enemies he fights.”
“By combining these sounds, Makoto can craft original tracks, brand new music for the whole nation to hear. From there, he’ll choose the setlist, arrange the band, assign a cast, and design the production—from lighting colours to staging—all in an effort to bring each show to life. As you tour the country staging performances and captivating audiences, you’ll experience Makoto’s rags-to-riches rise to success as a master showman.”
Stranger Than Heave n is out this winter for Xbox, PlayStation and PC.
In other news, an official Paranormal Activity game has been scrapped after Paramount allegedly refused to give creators more time on the project.
