Sophie Turner to Play Lara Croft for the Foreseeable Future

Sophie Turner has revealed she’ll be playing Lara Croft in Amazon Prime Video ’s Tomb Raider adaptation for years to come.

Sophie Turner is set to play the bad-ass archaeologist in Amazon’s upcoming adaptation of the hit video game series . The first season is currently filming and is expected to launch later this year. While there’s been no official confirmation that a season two is planned, Turner has said she expects to be busy with Lara Croft for the foreseeable future.

“Right now, my focus is Tomb Raider . It has been for quite a while and will be for a while to come,” said Turner, who started training for the part in 2024. “I feel good doing it. I was birthed by Game Of Thrones : TV is my bread and butter, and I love developing a character over years. If I hadn’t had Game Of Thrones , this would be overwhelming, but it’s a joy.”

“[Lara Croft] is so different from me and my personality – without giving too much away, there is an element of her that can be fairly toxic, but there is also an element of her that is so focused and determined,” she told The Telegraph . “Whereas I have ADHD and can’t complete a task without forgetting about it and doing something else. I am a total worrier and neurotic which she obviously isn’t, but we’re both obsessed with history.”

Earlier this year, Turner said her take on Lara Croft won’t be a “sex bombshell” .

“It’s about her and her story and what drives her, rather than what so many people also love about her, which is how hot she is in the games and the movies,” she added. “But I really want to show the other side. She’s so unashamedly capable. She is not a woman who hides her strengths at all.”

Amazon Prime Video’s take on Tomb Raider will be written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge ( Fleabag ), who’ll also serve as co-showrunner. “It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving,” she said in a statement. “Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and are all as outrageous, brave, and hilarious as she is. Get your artefacts out… Croft is coming…”

Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie and August Wittgenstein, will all star alongside Turner.

Tomb Raider fans can also expect a full remake of the original game to launch later this year while brand new adventure Tomb Raider: Catalyst will launch in 2027.

In other news, the live-action movie adaptation of classic side-scrolling fighting game Streets Of Rage  is back on.
